During my quarantine life I did things & adopted some habits which I realized that give some extra "structure" to my daily life! There are pretty simple things & basically expressions of self-care that during this hard time period we all did a little bit more consciously!
Quarantine Ritual: My ways to make the stay-at-home challenge more pleasant!
1. Home Decluttering
Putting things in order -sometimes like waiting for guests-, was something that really filled me with joy & made me proud of myself to see my place well organized!
Organizing my space & decluttering it from things I don't need or use is a spimple activity that not only helped me to fill out my day but also kept my psychology in a good mood!
When we get rid of things we don't need ot change the way or the position of some things, we help our home to become more functional either for working or relaxing!
With so much time available while being in social distancing, I believe that each of us could write the story of their life! However, I just started with a simple gratitude list! It may sound a little bit strange, but you will be surpised how many things come in mind every day, for which we can be grateful for! You will see that day by day this list will become longer & longer!
And in case you are one of the lucky ones who live in the countryside or have a garden or balcony, take advantage of it by journaling under the sunlight or blowing air. A nice scenery can make the process more revitalizing & inspirational!
3. Creative Self Expression-Drawing
Sketching or drawing something very small without that meaning it has to be a masterpiece, is a really relaxing activity. It helps the mind not only to concentrate but also to get rid of useless thoughts.
I foubd this activity very interesting & a good way to help myself to live in the moment and not to be be distracted by thinking the past or future.
Personally speaking, my desire for snacks beame more frequent during quarantine, that made kitchen even more busy! However, during all this period I grab the opportunity to create healthier meals & get inspired by some new gastronomic ideas! I truly believe that taking care of our diet with homemade and healthy cooked meals, is a sign of self-care!
One of my favorite parts of a typical quarantined day was combining the creative process of cooking with my favorite music in playlists, as it was the detail that took the whole experience to the next level!!
Tip: Enjoying a meal-especially lunch which is one of the most imporant meals during the day- without any distractions from electronic device (TV, laptop, smartphone etc.), really helps to concentrate to the process & enjoy it to the full.
Netflix on fire & movie nights at home!
Just by googling for the top 10 movies of the last 5 years & I discovered movies I've never noticed. Some other nights, I decided to watch again some of my favorites to laugh, be comforted and forget the hard time we all globally face.
6. Self Pampering
Put on your skin products that foster wellness & smell great! Clearly the smell of a skincare product plays an important role, as it is what makes us feel good!
Inevitably, our life during quarantine became more sedentary than ever!
A simple way to calm my body & relax was stretching on the floor while listening to my favorite playlist! The whole process really let my mind travel through the music & bossted my wellbeing status!
Another way to help body & mind to calm down, is to maditate.
The more we detox from screens and devote time to our personal well-being and relaxation, the better psychology we have! A candle or a reed diffuser with scent notes of our taste can really upgrade the experience!
A great app I recently discovered & helped me to meditate during quarantine, is called "Insight Timer", where you can discover a whole library of meditation sessions! It really worths downloading!
What I also marked as significant during my quarantine life, is communication with my loved ones-friends & family! Whether by video call or just a simple phone-call, once a day or more, this is something I tried to do more consciously than before! Although I'm not a phone-type person, these days of social distancing I used technology even more, as I don't think it makes sense to just send a typical SMS to a friend to get information about what's going on, how do you do etc
I realized how important it is to feel closer & together with your beloved ones in hard times like this.
10. Book Reading
I found the time to clear up my bookcase & discover some "diamond" books I didn't have the time to read before! I have an obsession to self-improvement books!! Quarantine was the perfect chance to do it!
Book reading not only helps the mind to escape from reality but it is also a source of knowledge & inspiration! It is good to try to incorporate again this habit into our daily life. At the beginning, you may not be able to concentrate & manage to read no more than 4-5 pages, but day by day you will get used to it & you will get captivated from the reading experience!
Keep on feeding your mind & soul!
